PAT Expands Emission Sensor Range
To keep up with the increasingly strict Euro 5 emissions regulations, where Diesel vehicles are required to meet a particle number limit, a developing variety of vehicle management sensors are becoming increasingly popular in modern vehicles.
The Euro 6 standard, already in place in Europe and USA and on its way to Australia, imposes even tighter limits on oxides of nitrogen for Diesel vehicles and requires Direct Injection Petrol vehicles to meet a particle number limit as well, creating even more demand for these specialised sensors.
To satisfy this growing market demand Premier Auto Trade have announced the expansion of their Sensors range.
Currently for Diesel powered vehicles to meet these Emission Standards they are generally fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Monitoring the levels of restriction in the DPF required by the in-use monitoring (OBD) can be provided by evaluating the pressure difference across the filter by the Exhaust Pressure Sensor (EPS), to ensure the efficiency of a DPF through a regeneration process.
Exhaust Pressure Sensors in modern diesel vehicles monitor the exhaust gas pressure either side of the particulate filter, between the intake and exit of the DPF, and allow the emission control system to ascertain whether a DPF regeneration is required. Premier Auto Trades growing selection of Exhaust Pressure Sensors now covers more than 658 vehicle applications for over a million vehicles on road.
With the continuing tightening of emission regulations, a more direct measurement of particulate matter is required that provides sufficient accuracy and sensitivity with stable long-life operation, whilst dealing with extreme exhaust gas conditions. The Particulate Matter Sensor (PMS) is used for this application.
The Particulate Matter Sensor can assist in the estimation of the amount of soot accumulation in the DPF for a more accurate DPF regeneration, and DPF failure detection to log an OBD fault signal. The Particulate Matter Sensor is generally installed downstream of the DPF and combined with an adapted Sensor Control Unit (SCU).
The Premier Auto Trade Sensor range now includes Particulate Matter Sensors (PMS) covering almost 75,000 vehicle applications in Australia and NZ.
Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensors (EGT) are also used in modern vehicles, both Petrol and Diesel, because they protect components that are in the flow of hot exhaust gas from critical overheating. These sensors measure temperatures up to 900 degrees Celsius in the exhaust system of the vehicle. The sensing element of an Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor changes in resistance with temperature allowing the engine computer to calculate the temperature.
Depending on the vehicle multiple Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensors are often used for monitoring accuracy. The computer uses this information to control a variety of processes. These include particulate filter regeneration, selective catalytic reduction, exhaust gas recirculation, turbo boost and overall engine combustion, to effectively reduce emissions and to protect components from overheating. In this event the ECU responds with suitable measures to reduce the temperature, through reduced performance like the limp home function.

Premier Auto Trade has increased the number of Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensors available to over 100 parts, covering almost 700 vehicle applications for over 1.5 million vehicles on road.
The PAT Sensors range is sourced from the world’s leading manufacturers and delivers OE form, fit and function, with all products now listed in the OSCAR electronic aftermarket parts catalogue system from AutoInfo.
The full range of Premier Auto Trade products are now available in the aftermarket via a network of specialised resellers and leading automotive groups.
