Test Equipment and Tools

Equipment that technicians require to assist in specific test procedures can not only reduce on vehicle work time, but also allows for an increase in accuracy and generally achieved in a clean environment.

Typical examples of these specific pieces of equipment are:

EQP-015 Fuel Line Stopper set (for all hydraulic fluid and pneumatic blanking)

Removing a hydraulic line from a connector fitted to any system component on a vehicle may become very messy and potentially dangerous depending on the system fluid type. Clamping flexible rubber hoses prior to separating or removing the connection is not always an option on modern vehicles and a quick means of blanking off the leak source with a suitable tool is generally welcomed by the technician.

With an array of blanking methods, the EQP-105 is suitable for:

  • Petrol and Diesel – Fuel lines and filters. (including Banjo type fuel connection fittings)
  • Transmission and power steering hoses.
  • A variety of brake line types
  • Cooler lines for various components on current vehicles. Typically, EGR valve cooler unit hoses, Electronic Throttle Body coolant hoses etc.
  • Multiple size vacuum hose applications for an array of vacuum systems on the modern vehicle.

Reducing fluid losses will not only potentially reduce environmental damage due to leakage from hydraulic systems but will also reduce the air bleeding process when the work has been completed on these systems.

EQP-001 Quick-Snap Connector Tool Kit.

Disconnecting fluid couplings without damaging seating and sealing surfaces is made easy with specific, specialised tools. With high pressure fluids used on multiple vehicle systems, using incorrect tools to separate the couplings may be potentially disastrous when working with hazardous fluids.

Simplified separating procedure:

Place the correct size tool over the metal pipe and push /slide the tool into the fitting to release the locking mechanism. This allows the quick – snap connector to separate.

The EQP-015 may then be utilised in sealing the separated pipes to reduce fluid loss.

EQP-023 Oil Pressure Universal Kit.

Vehicle engine oil pressure monitoring systems, (whether a pressure gauge or warning light) that indicates “no or lower than expected oil pressure” requires urgent clarification on actual engine oil pressure to ensure engine damage is prevented.

Naturally, any unusual engine noises whilst the oil pressure is suspected of being low should trigger alarm bells and result in instant engine switch off until further investigation is carried out.

Note: A lack of engine oil is a major cause of both excess engine noise and low pressure.  Generally, this simple task may be easily performed  by the average vehicle owner but, may be problematic with vehicles fitted with no engine oil dipstick which relies on engine oil level sensor monitoring only  that utilise an electronic level monitoring system which may have malfunctioned. A fault in the oil pressure monitoring system can be quickly determined by physically connecting an engine oil pressure gauge and monitoring both cold and hot engine oil pressure.

A steady oil pressure gauge needle operation during oil pressure testing is preferred – indicating minimum engine Internal oil leakage. Oil pressure expected readings vary between engine types and the manufacturers specs are required when
carrying out specific oil pressure tests on a vehicle.

EQP-101 Oxygen Sensor Tester / Simulator

From a single wire and up to a four wire 0 – 1 Volt Zirconium Oxygen sensor operation, can be quickly monitored or the output simulated on the vehicle to ensure the integrity of the signal and circuit is acceptable. Whether the technician’s requirement is to monitor the:

  • “Pass / Fail” result that is available in seconds
  • or an LED Bar graph to assist in interpreting the sensor operation.
  • or the cross count in real time
  • or even a rich / lean mode to simulate varying fuel conditions to monitor ECM response.

The EQP-101 makes interpreting Oxygen Sensor operation a simple task.

EQP-102 Automotive Multimeter and infrared thermometer.

Automotive specific multi meters give the technicians the ability to carry out further comprehensive tests on a vehicle that a standard Volt, Amp, Resistance monitoring multimeter does not allow.

With the ability to accurately measure:

  • % Duty cycle for PWM signals. (Common task on later vehicles)
  • ms Pulse (Common tasks on later vehicles)
  • Dwell    
  • Engine RPM
  • Frequency in Hz (Common on later vehicles)
  • Capacitance testing – may be used to assist in testing Piezo type Common Rail Diesel injectors. (extremely handy for detailed testing)

The EQP-102 can also measure/monitor temperature by either direct or indirect contact. A separate temp probe or an infrared thermometer can allow for accurate fluid and solid component temperature measurements.

With temperature-controlled systems on later vehicles, measuring specific components is an important requirement to ensure all operating systems function correctly.
